DESCRIPTION:We are trialling having our committee and general meetings on different days. General meetings will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month (as before) and committee meetings will be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Former Commons Transport Chair Lilian Greenwood commented\, “Right now all our energies are on tackling the coronavirus but when we come out the other side we have an equally serious emergency because emissions from transport have to be tackled if we are serious about turning around the future of the planet for coming generations.” \nJoin Southwark Cyclists’ General Meeting on Wednesday 8th April 7:30-8:30pm to brainstorm how we might decarbonise Southwark’s roads. DESCRIPTION:Join Southwark Cyclists for this meeting with London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner\, Will Norman. We’ll be asking him about progress on major cycle routes in Southwark\, the recent changes in cycleway standards\, and how campaigners can be more effective in getting safe routes. \nSpaces are limited\, so please register if you’d like to attend. We kindly ask you to update your RSVP if you can no longer attend. \nRegister for this event \nThe event starts promptly at 7:30pm. This will follow our monthly committee meeting that starts at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend. We’ll be heading to the pub after the meeting for anyone that wants to attend. \nThe Bridge is located on Southwark Bridge Road at Southwark Street\, near the intersection of CS7 and QW14. There are bike stands in front of the building\, across Southwark Street\, and near Union Street at QW14. DESCRIPTION:Inspirational speaker Michael Barratt\, MBE and the TfL man behind the famous and very wonderful Road Safety Patrols will be the main draw at our AGM. This Patrol is a partnership of TfL\, cyclists (us)\, pedestrian and other stakeholder groups. Their aim is to keep us safe. \nMore about Michael Barratt and his MBE and what it’s for here: https://tinyurl.com/y7qqzccm No one else seems to care but the Road Safety Patrol thinks we matter. They inspect (not on paper but on bikes) all TfL and major development schemes while they are underway and try to make sure that traffic management and construction management implemented does not negatively impact on vulnerable roadusers. They try to keep us alive. \nMr Barratt will be speaking at 6.30. I’m told his talks are good so do come and enjoy it. Sadly he will be followed by the AGM but it is OK to leave at this point. \nMembers wanting to start a revolution are very welcome. Opportunities for a take-over by radical elements are available. Your committee will be very pleased to be overthrown. If you don’t want to go that far there will be reports on what we’ve done\, opportunities for volunteering and the accounts. There is often booze at some point. \nThere will be the ordinary meeting after the AGM for anyone left.
