SUMMARY:Harold Wood to Waltham Cross Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:Harold Wood to Waltham Cross Healthy Ride\nIMPORTANT. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/harold-wood-to-waltham-cross-ride-tickets-1994136249202?aff=oddtdtcreator \nAnother Essex adventure devised by Owen. The ride starts at Harold Wood station on the Elizabeth line (Station step free\, Zone 6\, 35 min from Liverpool St). Meet 9.30am for a prompt start (note change of time from 11 July). \nHarold Wood and neighbouring Harold Hill are named after Harold Godwinson\, king Harold 2 the last Anglo Saxon king of England. From Harold Wood we head toward Harold Hill Central Park. From there we climb up towards Havering-atte-Bower stopping at Bedfords Park Visitor’s Centre with a deer sanctuary and magnificent views of Central London. We then ride along Wellingtonia Avenue with its majestic giant Sequoia trees. This area has the second largest plantation of giant redwood trees in the country. The ride then passes through Havering Country Park\, Hainault Forest\, Chigwell Row\, Chigwell\, Loughton\, and then Epping Forest where we will take another break. From there we head to Waltham Abbey and the memorial to King Harold 2. If we have time we’ll stop by the Lee Valley White Water Centre before heading down the Lee Valley Navigation and then towards Turkey Street station on the Weaver line where the ride ends. Estimated finish time 2pm. Note Turkey St Station is not step free. Nearest step free option is Edmonton Green\, 4 miles down the A10.\nThis ride is 40km long and requires a reasonable level of fitness as there are a few gentle hills. It includes about 7km on unpaved paths which makes the ride ideal for gravel bikes\, mountain bikes and hybrid bikes.  Unfortunately this ride is not recommended for road bikes or Bromptons.  GPX file available\, From_Harold_Wood_to_Waltham_Cross_2.gpx \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides\, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/. \n

SUMMARY:Riding the SuperSewer Healthy Ride++
DESCRIPTION:Riding the SuperSewer\nPlease register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers\, link:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/riding-the-supersewer-with-southwark-cycists-tickets-1998670138186?aff=oddtdtcreator \nAll day 41 mile circuit following the now complete SuperSewer (Thames Tideway Tunnel\, map and info here) looking at the many legacy projects and a few incidental events. Weeks of research by Ride Leader Werner have now found the ideal route! \nStart 9am\, London Bridge (Needle). Begins with a ride to Acton Storm Tanks where the SuperSewer begins. On the way will pass though Notting Hill where preparations for the big Parade will be visible.  Possible to join the ride at Acton. Be there before 10.30 and wait at the Canham Road entrance. If meeting there indicate this on the registration form and we will send you a number to message in case of problems. From Acton will follow line of the tunnel to the Thames at Hammersmith with probable coffee break at the Riverside Studios. Continue along the Thames on the north bank stopping at various Tideway related sites. Then cross Albert Bridge (now traffic free) to Battersea Park. Possible lunch stop here\, ca 12.45. Continue on south side to the tiny new “Effra Island” next to Vauxhall Bridge then cross back over Westminster Bridge. Alternative lunch stop on the South Bank ca 1.15.  Route continues to the King Edward Memorial Park in Wapping. Here the park has been expended to include the new land created to provide space for the Tideway work (see https://www.tideway.london/locations/king-edward-memorial-park-foreshore/). We then head inland following the sewer to the amazing Victorian pumping station at Abbey Mills. This is where the new tunnel ends as it links to existing pipes to Becton Sewage Treatment Works. Finally we will ride back to the start at London Bridge arriving there very approximately at 3.30pm. \nCome for all or part of the ride\, and have a great Bank Hol outing. But remember bring snacks\, water and puncture repair kit or spare inner tube and give your bike a thorough check. \nGeneral Information. \nRiders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride\, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
