SUMMARY:Peckham to Lewisham and the Quaggy River - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:NOTE You must register on Eventbrite for Healthy Rides at present due to Covid regulations. Link for this ride is: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-to-the-quaggy-river-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-161270379045 \nEasy-paced 2 hour ride\, this one mostly quiet roads with a few path sections through parks. Some gentle hills\, nothing extreme.  Start/finish Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre\, SE15 5RY).\nThe Quaggy meets the Ravensbourne close to Lewisham station where much new development is taking place. The opportunity has been taken to open up this built-in water feature as “Confluence Park”. The ride will follow the Quaggy\, mostly hidden behind buildings in a sad concrete culvert. At Manor Park the river emerges\, but is still hidden away to start with\, although at the south end of the park you can get close on natural banks. Then to Manor House Gardens where the Quaggy is kept in a channel\, behind railings. In contrast to the Ravensbourne in Brookmill Park looks like a real river. Lots of information about the Quaggy on the web site of QWAG (Quaggy Waterways Action Group\, https://qwag.org.uk/river-quaggy/) whose “goal is to demonstrate that rivers can be major assets to an urban environment – bringing natural beauty\, educational facilities and wildlife into urban lives.”\nRoute is at https://goo.gl/svHy65. Outward leg will use the northern\, less hilly route via Bridgehouse Meadows and Fordham Park to Brookmill Park. Return leg goes past the Lewisham Leisure Centre\, Brockley Station and Nunhead. Leader Bruce. 16.5km\, just over 10 miles.  Last did this ride 22nd Feb 2020\, see report   https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2020/peckham-to-lewisham-and-the-quaggy-river/

Start/finish at Deal Porter Square\, opposite Canada Water Station\, SE16 7AR.  Flat ride into central London led by Philippa. SUMMARY:Greenwich to Lesnes Abbey - Healthy Ride
DESCRIPTION:NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/greenwich-to-lesnes-abbey-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-162351145647 \nNote the slightly earlier 9.30 start. 20 mile route largely follows the river\, keeping to the south side. Outward takes the Thames path round the Greenwich  peninsula and continuing to Woolwich and Thamesmead. Heads inland on mostly paths to Lesnes Abbey and a well-deserved coffee break. On the return use the 3 mile linear\, elevated\, Ridgeway path to Woolwich\, then Thames path again until the Ecology Park at N Greenwich. Cut across the peninsula to save your legs and finish along a short stretch of Thames path to Cutty Sark. High proportion of this route is on off-road paths. Done this route at least twice in recent years. Route map below \nReports of previous rides: http://healthyrider.weebly.com/healthy-ride-reports-august_sept-2017.html and https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/38-riders-a-healthy-ride-record/.  Our most popular ride ever was the 2019 ride with 38 riders!  Loads to see\, including riding past the O2\, Thames Barrier and the steel men (“Assembly” by Peter Burke) at Woolwich Arsenal.  Amanda leading.
