SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Werner will be holding the speedgun and pointing it at errant drivers. The fall in cars on the road and the consequent fall in congestion have increased speeds. Whoever could have guessed that wide empty roads would increase dangerous driving!!! \nRoads policing is rising steadily up the political agenda and CSW has got a part to play. Our data makes it harder for the police to ignore the speeding that goes on when they aren’t around. Cameras on cycle helmets make dangerous tail-gating that little less likely to go unobserved and unreported. \nSpeedwatch in Southwark is run by PCSO Kevin Phillips who is affable and keen. To join in email him at kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk. He will listen to your views on good locations\, take a look for himself and arrange dates and times suitable for you. Enjoy. It’s good fun

SUMMARY:Community Speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:A Southwark Cyclist’ volunteers will be wielding the speedgun with PCSO Kevin Phillips. They get lots of support from passers-by. Less from motorists. The top speed clocked so far: 66. Ful details here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/66-in-a-20mph-zone/. Extra points for motor cycles and daft excuses “I was going downhill” and “the wind was behind me”. \nYou can join in. Email Kevin on kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk and suggest a place. He will check it out and work out a date and time suitable for you. Kevin is nice\, affable and fun and really fed up with bad driving. The pic will give you the idea.

SUMMARY:Community Speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists’ volunteer\, Sally\, will be pointing the speedgun at passing cars with PCSO Kevin Phillips who writes down offenders numbers. Lots of support from pedestrians and passing cyclists\, possibly less enthusiasm from motorists. The speedwatch locations are suggested by the public and checked out by Kevin. \nThe top speed logged so far (in a 20mph zone) is 66. Full story and details of how Speedwatch works here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/66-in-a-20mph-zone/. Motor cyclists are worth extra points because a) they ae often going faster and b) they don’t have a front nunber plate. Team work required. \nYou can join in. Email Kevin at kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk\, suggest a spot and let him know when you are available and you’re in. He’s nice. Affable. (see pic)

SUMMARY:Car-free day 2019
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists Car Free Day \nSouthwark Cyclists are planning to run rides and events as part of London Car Free Day\, starting at 11am.  The programme will include group rides around the car free area (including Tooley St\, Tower Bridge\, Fenchurch St\, Bank\, Bishopsgate\, London Bridge).  We will be organising some small competitions on Tooley St to test your cycling skills\, e.g. slow races\, track standing\, limbo.  Bring any equipment for street games\, e.g. tennis or badmnton rackets and shuttles/balls\, in case we get bored with cycling (unlikely\, but we might just fancy a quick game of something else). \nWe are asking you to sign up so we have an idea of numbers and can do some planning. If a lot of people are coming we will maintain a constant presence at the Needle.  If we are not there\, come and search for us. Look for a bike with an orange flag on a tall pole.  See you there! \nIt would be helpful to know rough numbers\, so if you are planning to come along there’s an (optional) Evenbrite form at:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-cyclists-car-free-day-tickets-72845110687   Do not worry if you have not done this – just turn up. We will be there. \nSeptember 22nd is London’s biggest car-free day so far\, closing 12.3 miles (20km) of roads in the centre of the city. Roads will be closed around London Bridge\, Tower Bridge and much of the City of London.  Boroughs across the city will also hold events promoting walking\, cycling and public transport\, as well as creating scores of “play streets”.

SUMMARY:Quietways critical fails ride
DESCRIPTION:Meet outside Prince William Henry\,  216-219 Blackfriars Rd\, London SE1 8NL for an enjoyably grumpy look at Southwark’s Quietways. The leader will be Sean Howes a large\, cheerful\, determined bloke on a green Bromption.\n\nThe group will cycle the section of QW14 in Southwark and then loop back up the section of QW1 before heading back and going down QW7 . The routes of these are shown  https://drive.google.com/open?id=1y4sinmvHLAo7jwyqHQG_O0LfA02kBtwr&usp=sharing \n\nThe idea is to look for CLOS critical fails on both the build and proposed sections of the Quietways. Opinions will be more useful if those holding them first read https://lcc.org.uk/pages/clos \n\n

SUMMARY:Funeral for the Unknown Cyclist - Pedal on Parliament
DESCRIPTION:This is a  national cycling and walking protest & die-in against the government & Parliament before the autumn budget. It’s organised by Stop Killing Cyclists\, who base their approach on the very successful Stop the Child Murders die-ins in Holland\, during the early 70s\, which were the catalyst for the transformation of Holland into  the most bike-friendly country in the world. If you’ve ever ridden a bike in The Netherlands\, you’ll know how far we have to go..\n\n\n\n\nThe protest is to condemn all existing and previous governments from all the major parties for their failure to take comprehensive action on safer cycling. It calls for £3 billion a year to be invested in a national protected cycling network and no more tax cuts for fuel. These cuts are damaging our children’s lungs for life and shortening lives.\n\n\n\nWe have some of the lowest levels of cycling investment in Europe and the highest levels of childhood obesity We need urgent action to tackle these problems and investment in cycling is one of the best.\n\nThere’s a feeder ride to the protest which will pass by Crol coffee shop at the Dunton Road/Lynton Road lights on QW1. Join Jane Dent for a coffee and then join the ride at 11.25am to Webber St and pick up more people at the corner of CS6 Blackfriars Rd at 11.40am. Or join the protest at midday in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. At 1pm the procession starts and from 2-3pm there’s a rally and die-in at the Treasury\, Parliament Square.\n\n\n\n\n
