SUMMARY:Dulwich Air Quality and School Streets meeting
DESCRIPTION:Dulwich Society meeting to discuss “Getting Around Dulwich: towards a healthier\, safer and more active future”. Air pollution and car ownership are high in Dulwich and many elderly people feel very dependent on their cars. \nA parent\, Dr Henrietta Collier\, from Bessemer Grange primary school will tell them about the success of their street closure in keeping the school run at bay and encouraging more active travel. A complete closure is already in place around Bellenden School and school-run barriers are planned at Robert Browning JMI off the Walworth Road. \nDr Helen Wood\, an academic at Queen Mary’s researching “The health effects of traffic-related air pollution”\, MP Helen Hayes and Southwark Cabinet member with responsibility for Air Pollution reduction\, councillor Richard Livingstone\, will also speak. \nMore controversially the meeting will discuss Controlled Parking Zones and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Freecycle: Ride London
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclists will be leading a feeder ride to the Prudential Ride London event.  There will also be a led return.  Ride will be fully marshalled and suitable for all cyclists of any age.  Meeting place is at the Cafe on Strakers Rd\, in the middle of Peckham Rye Park. \nThe cafe is marked in a slightly weird place on the map. it is right beside Strakers Road rather than as marked (as anyone who knows the park will know) over in the bushes. \nAfter 10 mind bending minutes of trying to draw a map I will just say that a lot of the route is down parks\, green spaces\, on-pavement cycle lanes and cycle superhighways. \nThere are two pick-up points on the way — the first at around 10.10am will be under Peckham Arch which is the access point into Peckham Square from Rye Lane. Eleanor will be meeting and greeting and the Arch looks like this: \n \nWe will meet a group from the north of the borough at Burgess Park Cafe (which is 200 Albany Road if you want to look at it on a google map) at 10.30am. A group from Crystal Palace are also expected to join us here and then we will all go on together to Southwark Bridge. \nAfter that it’s every man\, woman and child for themselves. The return ride is not at all compulsory but if you want to come back as well then details will be finalised on arrival. \nDetails: \nRoute: Southwark to Southwark Bridge\nStart point: Strakers Road\, Peckham Rye Park\, Peckham SE15 3UA\nEnd point: Southwark Bridge\nStart time: 10:00\nDistance: Five miles\nReturn ride start point: Southwark Bridge\nReturn ride start time: 15:00 \nMore info at https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/events/freecycle/rider-info/led-rides/   (Includes info on other borough led rides.) \nWe are part of the London cycling campaign but you don’t have to be to join. Everything we do is free and everyone is welcome. \n\n

SUMMARY:Bessemer Grange school run to London Bridge
DESCRIPTION:The school is taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal week http://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-services/who-we-work/teachers/big-pedal. The Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scootering challenge. It inspires pupils\, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school. \nParents will cycle their children to school and then will cycle on themselves to London Bridge – or wherever they need to get to.  We will leave the school at 9hrs and expect to get to London Bridge  by 9.45 or sooner  depending on riders. \nContacts at the school Amy Foster and Henrietta Collier. Contacts at Southwark Cyclists Andy Cawdell on southwark@lcc.org.uk and Sally Eva on 07842 640 207

SUMMARY:Mardi Gras Bike Parade
DESCRIPTION:Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday or\, lapsing into English\, Shrove Tuesday. Your last chance to eat sugar\, butter\, eggs and flour for a month. For the first time it will be celebrated in Borough and Bankside with a Bike Parade. \nStarting at 1pm\, decorated bikes\, included disabled-accessible bikes from Wheels for Wellbeing\, will travel a short route through Bankside and Borough\, taking some Mardi Gras colour to the Tate. The exact route is still under discussion but experienced cyclists\, abled and dis-abled are needed to marshal the ride plus some arty/crafty types to decorate the bikes. \nThe day will round off with a free Mardi Gras Pancake Party. Children are invited to come after school from 3:30 to 5pm for pancake flipping contests\, fresh pancakes\, live music and a chance to ride the decorated Mardi Gras bikes. The party will take place next to The Fruit Tree on Great Suffolk Street\, SE1 1PE. \nExperienced cyclists are needed both to ride the accessible bikes and to join in on their own bikes. The Parade will be marshalled and riders with experience of guided group cycling are particularly needed. Children\, sadly\, are not allowed on the Parade but can try the accessible bikes at the Pancake Party. All riders must register in advance. \nTo take part\, apply via the website https://se1mardigras.wordpress.com or email hmdigitalprojects@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:European History of Peckham and Camberwell
DESCRIPTION:Bike your way IN to history! \nEver wondered about the names of Calais Road\, De Crespigny Park\, Denmark Hill or Delft Way? Did you know that Camberwell had a thriving German population in the 19th century\, supporting bakeries\, a German church and visiting composers? Or that a community of French Huguenot refugees settled here? Have you spotted the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Camberwell New Road? Ever bought Cypriot pastries in SE5 or French chocolate in SE15? \n\n\nThis free guided cycle ride will uncover the European history of Camberwell and Peckham. It’s led by Eleanor Margolies\, author of ‘Green Camberwell’. All welcome\, including accompanied children. We will mainly be on quiet roads and will travel at a gentle pace\, with stops for sightseeing and appropriate refreshments. \nBooking: The ride is completely free but it would help us to plan if you book. Please email eleanor.margolies at southwark.greenparty.org.uk to book or with any questions.

SUMMARY:Plus de Dr Bike
DESCRIPTION:Dr Bike hard at work under Peckham Arch\, looking south towards Peckham High Street and Rye Lane. The one in red\, head down\, with no hair is the boss\, Andy Cawdell. \nAndy and others will be fixing bikes for all comers aided by the usual suspects on March 31st. Probably be a bit lighter than the photo suggests because of the hour change. \nTogether they will fix punctures\, brakes and weird gears. They will fit parts if you bring them (or rush off and buy them from the good local bike shops). \nSadly\, no coffee. The workforce never gets time to drink it anyway.
