SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist volunteer\, Werner\, will be wielding the speed gun this evening on Southwark Bridge Road. He’s a dedicated speeder-catcher and currently tops the board for numbers of taxis caught in one session. Admittedly he hangs out in SE1 (principally) where the black cabs hang out too so he has an advantage on the rest of us. Top speed caught on speedgun so far (any vehicle- type eligible) is 66 mph. There aren’t any prizes and anyone can join in. Email PCSO Kevin Phillips (pictured) at kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk and tell him you want to volunteer. He’ll encourage you. More detail here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/66-in-a-20mph-zone/

SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:A Southwark Cyclists volunteer will be holding the speed gun in East Dulwich Grove — giving drivers a little surprise when they tear out of the traffic lights. \nFortunately the speedgun holders are protected by the long arm of the law in the form of PCSO Kevin Phillips and he in turn benefits from evidence that the community cares about speeding and wants to control it. It’s a win-win situation. The December schedule is below. If anything catches your eye contact Kevin on kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk and volunteer. If you have other times and places to suggest\, Kevin is very open to offers. His picture is above. SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:Southwark Cyclist Werner is a man who likes staying alive and after one particularly close pass\, he decided to act. He will be wielding the speedgun on Long\, Lane aided and abetted by PCSO Kevin Phillips. \nKevin is an affable soul (see pic above) but he tends to chat so it’s important to keep him on task. He’s also got a new baby at home which can be very distracting. However\, he has put together December’s Speedwatch schedule and you are invited to join in. \nAs an example of what you can catch\, here is the best so far: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/66-in-a-20mph-zone/.  The December schedule is below. To take part email Kevin on kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk. SUMMARY:community speedwatch
DESCRIPTION:How we police our roads (or don’t) is a political big deal at the moment.  You can help it up the agenda. Speedwatch produces the data which show how much speeding goes on when the police aren’t looking. \nThis report https://www.police-foundation.org.uk/publication/the-future-of-roads-policing/ calls for more emphasis on keeping the roads safe\, It calls for the Home Office to adopt roads policing as a Strategic Policing Requirement\,  advocates adopting Vision Zero with police aiming for zero road deaths and recommends closer collaboration\, including with third sector aka you and me\, us \nTo join in contact PCSO Kevin Phillips@kevin.j.phillips@met.police.uk. He’s an affable\, flexible\, agreeable sort of chap and will cheerfully adjust his ideas to yours. Operating the speedgun is easy\, passers-by overwhelmingly supportive and drivers

SUMMARY:Climate Safe Streets Cycle Ride for the Election
DESCRIPTION:Local boroughs decide the layout of almost all roads in London. Councillors talk the talk about active transport\, but do they walk the walk (or cycle the cycle)? \nElections are a time to pressure our local politicians to TAKE ACTION. To improve cycling facilities MUCH MORE so that our roads are safer\, our planet less polluted – and we are all healthier. \nThe London Cycling Campaign are organising a programme of action for Climate Safe Streets (https://lcc.org.uk/campaigns/climate-safe-streets/). As part of this the local groups in Southwark\, Lewisham and Greenwich are having a joint ride on Saturday 23rd April. Will be an easy route and marshals will control the busy bits so families can join in. You do not have to be a member of LCC. We want everyone to come along and demonstrate to councillors and candidates that more needs to be done to encourage cycling – to improve road safety and reduce pollution. \nThere are start/finish points in each borough. \n\n\n\nBorough\nLocation of start point \nStart time \nEnd time \n\n\nGreenwich\nCutty Sark Gardens \n \n09:30am \n \n12:30pm\n\n\nLewisham\nFolkestone Gardens\, Trundleys Rd SE8 5JE \n \n10:00am \n \n1:00pm\n\n\nSouthwark\nSouthwark Park Pavilion Cafe \n \n10:30am \n \n1.30pm\n\n\n\n  \nYou do not have to do the whole route. Fine to join us for just a stretch. Or great if you can do the entire route back and forth through all 3 boroughs. Route map. \nDecorate your bike. Make a placard and work out how to carry it on your bike. We want to attract attention! \nPlease register on Eventbrite if you can\, it helps with the planning\, Climate Safe Streets Ride – Greenwich\, Lewisham & Southwark.  However\, not required – it is OK to just turn up. \nP.S Nice LCC video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gufyAgd4qQw
