SUMMARY:Award winning Bike Train returns
DESCRIPTION:This picture might be a bit premature but I’m always hopeful.Last year when the Bike Train began the rains started and almost never stopped. I’m hopeful about that too. \nThe Bike Train starts again at its new time. That means 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station. The Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill lines join in Burgess Park which is why it’s OK that they start at the same time. \nThe starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds and at Denmark Hill from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk. Camberwell Grove and Windsor Walk have both been closed since we started so this route keeps getting better. \nOur route takes us through two parks\, up a traffic calmed back street\, onto the on-pavement cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the still lovely but no longer so new segregation up St George’s Way and Blackfriars Road. All legal and all as safe as your mother would make it. \nWe get to Blackfriars at 8.30am and then a group goes north to Kings Cross and anyone who wants can be buddied wherever they want. SUMMARY:Bessemer Grange school run to London Bridge
DESCRIPTION:The school is taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal week http://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-services/who-we-work/teachers/big-pedal. The Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scootering challenge. It inspires pupils\, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school. \nParents will cycle their children to school and then will cycle on themselves to London Bridge – or wherever they need to get to.  We will leave the school at 9hrs and expect to get to London Bridge  by 9.45 or sooner  depending on riders. \nContacts at the school Amy Foster and Henrietta Collier. (It’s free). \nA Bike Train is a led-ride and this one is a led-ride to work for those fed up with being at the mercy of the train operators\, who want to take their commute into their own hands (or feet) (or something). Cycling makes you happy\, keeps you healthy and costs nothing. The ride is free. \nWe leave Nunhead Station at 7.45am\, Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stations at 7.55am. At Denmark Hill we leave from the cafe in Windsor Walk led by Liz Eden (07814 515 715). The two rides meet in Burgess Park and arrive at Blackfriars at 8.30am. The starting point at Peckham Rye is the bike stands behind McDonalds. \nFrom Blackfriars riders are taken on individually (if they want) and destinations so far include Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, Westminster\, Mayfair and Tower Hill. DESCRIPTION:A Bike Train is a bike ride to work. Cycling makes you happy\, keeps you healthy and costs nothing. \nWe leave Nunhead at 8am\, Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stations at 8.10am. At Denmark Hill we leave from the cafe in Windsor Walk led by Liz Eden (07814 515 715). The two rides meet and arrive at Blackfriars at 8.45am. The starting point at Peckham Rye is the bike stands behind McDonalds. From Blackfriars riders are taken on individually (if they want) and destinations so far include Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, Westminster\, Mayfair and Tower Hill. \nOur route takes in two parks\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the cycling-on-the-pavement lanes on the New Kent Road\, the Elephant and Castle by-pass and then the new TfL segregation. It’s very quiet and enjoyable\, mostly off-road (through parks) and then a backstreet. He sets off before the central Southwark Bike Train to get though Dulwich before the school run. \nUp Greendale (a hill but green) and down through Camberwell\, Burgess Park\, up Portland Street and around the Elephant and Castle on the bypass. Then he’s offering a choice between CSH7 over Southwark Bridge or CSH6 (aka the North/South Cycle Superhighway) up Blackfriars Road and over that Bridge. DESCRIPTION:The Bike Train led by experienced cyclists takes riders to Blackfriars on a route through two parks\, up a traffic-calmed backstreet\, around the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the wonderful new segregated cycle lanes. We set off from Nunhead station at 8am\, joining cyclists at Peckham Rye Station at 8.10am (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) and meeting a branch line from Denmark Hill at 8.20am in Burgess Park. That branch line leaves Denmark Hill at 8.10am. \nWe arrive at the north end of Blackfriars Bridge at 8.45am where riders go their separate ways accompanied (if they wish) by Bike Buddies who have so far taken cyclists on to Hyde Park\, Mayfair\, Kings Cross and Tower Hill. The majority of the route is off-route through parks or segregated — with three feet of raised pavement between riders and the traffic. \nRides back are arranged individually. Everyone is welcome. Unlike the trains\, everyone gets a seat\, no one gets a backpack in their face and there are no cancellations or delays. We skip (can trains skip?) between the rain-drops\, lightening bolts and thunder. \nOur route is the usual one; two parks\, one traffic-calmed backstreet\, the pavement-cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the lovely new segregated cycle lanes. Everyone who tries it is converted. \nWe start from Nunhead Station at 8am; pick up at Peckham Rye station at 8.10am and meet a branch line coming in from Denmark Hill Station at 8.20am in Burgess Park. The departure point from Peckham Rye station is the bike stands behind McDonalds (west end of Holly Grove). We arrive at the north end of Blackfriars Bridge at 8.45am. \nFrom there we take riders on individually. So far we have taken people to Kings Cross\, Faringdon\, Mayfair\, Hyde Park and the Tower (not for incarceration). All this is free. Everyone is cheerful and no one fears for their life at any point. \nReturn rides are also arranged individually. Like real trains these are heart-stoppingly expensive. No that’s a joke. DESCRIPTION:Doesn’t that look nice? There’s about a mile of segregation on Blackfriars Road and St George’s Way taking you to the heart of London. The Bike Train takes you to the segregation and after Blackfriars to Westminster\, Mayfair\, Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, and Canary Wharf. You name it we can take you there (within reason\, like) \nWe use two parks\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the pavement-cycle-lanes on the New Kent Road\, the Elephant and Castle by-pass and then (joy) the segregation to Blackfriars. Anyone whose ever seen the traffic on the Old Kent Road will feel they have been transported to another city. \nThe Bike Train leaves Nunhead Station at 8am and picks up riders at the bike stands behind McDonalds in Rye Lane (right beside Peckham Rye Station). We pick up other riders from our Denmark Hill branch line in Burgess Park and then the train is fast (not really) to Blackfriars Bridge. \nThe segregation goes north from there to Faringdon\, west to Westminster and east to Tower Hill (I think). This route goes through the park\, two parks in fact\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the New Kent Road on-pavement cycle lanes\, the Elephant and Castle bike by-pass and then the segregated lanes to Blackfriars and beyond. \nWe have taken bike commuters on to Kings Cross\, Faringdon\, Fleet Street\, Westminster\, Mayfair and Hyde Park. A branch line from Denmark Hill Station joins the Bike Train in Burgess Park (where the flowers are). Return journey arranged individually. \nWe start at 8am from Nunhead Station\, pick up at 8.10am from Peckham Rye Station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) and arrive at the north end of Blackfriars Bridge at 8.45am. DESCRIPTION:This is our destination. The lovely new segregated cycle lanes to Blackfriars and beyond. Our “secret route” to the segregation takes us through two parks\, a traffic-calmed residential backstreet\, the pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road\, the E&C bypass and the Dutch-style cycle lanes. \nWe leave Nunhead Station at 8am and Peckham Rye Station (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) at 8.10am arriving Blackfriars 8.45am. Unlike the train we are free and reliable. Also unlike the train we will wait a short while if we know you are coming. No need to come anywhere near an HGV or a bus. Main hazards: dogs\, small children\, shopping trolleys and other cyclists. \nWe take riders on individually to Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, Mayfair and Westminster. DESCRIPTION:The Bike Train will start as usual at 8am from Nunhead Station picking up riders at Peckham Rye Station from the bike stands behind McDonalds at 8.10am. A new service will leave Denmark Hill Station at 8.10 to join us in Burgess Park. ETA Blackfriars Bridge 8.45am. \nWe will be following our trusty backstreets route through two parks\, a residential\, traffic-calmed backstreet\, the New Kent Road on-pavement cycle lanes\, the E&C bypass and then the segregated cycle lanes up St George’s Road and Blackfriars Road to the bridge. \nFrom there Bike Buddies will take you on to Faringdon\, Kings Cross and Mayfair.
