Camberwell Grove and Windsor Walk have both been closed since we started so this route keeps getting better. \nOur route takes us through two parks\, up a traffic-calmed back street\, onto the on-pavement cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the still lovely but no longer so new segregation up St George’s Way and Blackfriars Road. DESCRIPTION:The school is taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal week http://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-services/who-we-work/teachers/big-pedal. The Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scootering challenge. It inspires pupils\, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school. \nParents will cycle their children to school and then will cycle on themselves to London Bridge – or wherever they need to get to.  We will leave the school at 9hrs and expect to get to London Bridge  by 9.45 or sooner  depending on riders. \nContacts at the school Amy Foster and Henrietta Collier. At Denmark Hill we leave from the cafe in Windsor Walk led by Liz Eden (07814 515 715). The two rides meet in Burgess Park and arrive at Blackfriars at 8.30am. DESCRIPTION:Starts from the Cafe St Germain\, here shown looking very summery and complete with bike. Leader will be Angus Hewlett. He sets off before the central Southwark Bike Train to get though Dulwich before the school run. \nUp Greendale (a hill but green) and down through Camberwell\, Burgess Park\, up Portland Street and around the Elephant and Castle on the bypass. Then he’s offering a choice between CSH7 over Southwark Bridge or CSH6 (aka the North/South Cycle Superhighway) up Blackfriars Road and over that Bridge. SUMMARY:Cycle to Work Day -- on the Southwark Bike Train
DESCRIPTION:Cycle to Work Day is a national event to be held on September 14th\, 2016. It aims to encourage everyone to take to two wheels and cycle to work for at least one day. \nJoin all those who have started cycling to work with the Southwark Bike Train — and know that all over the country\, thousands of others are taking the same step towards fun and fitness at the same time. \nWe are free\, cheerful and reliable as always and we will be running our normal timetable.  \nWe leave Nunhead Station at 8am\, Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stations at 8.10am. At Denmark Hill we leave from the cafe in Windsor Walk led by Liz Eden (07814 515 715) and arrive at Blackfriars at 8.45am. The meeting point at Peckham Rye is the bike stands behind McDonalds. From there riders are taken on individually (if they want) and destinations so far include Faringdon\, Kings Cross\, Westminster\, Mayfair and Tower Hill.  \nOur route takes in two parks\, a traffic-calmed backstreet\, the cycling-on-the-pavement lanes on the New Kent Road\, the Elephant and Castle by-pass and then the new TfL segregation. Fanastisch (Dutch) \nTo celebrate Cycle to Work Day we will be running Bike Train specials to St Thomas’s Hospital (along Upper Ground)\, to Guys Hospital along Union Street and Newcomen Street and to the Southwark Council HQ in Tooley Street.   \nEntirely free and all welcome. DESCRIPTION:This is a picture of my back because the Bike Train route is much better looking than I am. We run from central Southwark to Blackfriars and Westminster every Wednesday rush hour morning. Our route is 50% parks and 40% segregation. The remaining 10% is a backstreet. DESCRIPTION:Come on our famous Bike Train and find\, like previous riders\, that it “changes everything” about getting on your bike to work. Another rider said it’s “very stress-free”.Our route follows the route of the old Surrey Canal of which this mega-park is just a part. This is a canal bridge over the former canal about half way through. \nOur route takes us through two parks\, north along a traffic-calmed backstreet\, onto the pavement-cycling lanes along the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle bypass and then onto the lovely new TfL segregation all the way to Blackfriars.
