SUMMARY:Bike Train via Quietway 1
DESCRIPTION:This is a map of Quietway 1\, London’s best quietway. Lots of people like it. The numbers of people using it are increasing every year as riders tell their friends. \nWe’re tending to use Quietway 1 for the Bike Train these days rather that the traditional route. This is mostly because Quietway 1 is a gem and the Bike Train route is beset by roadworks and people digging it up. All in a worthy cause I’m sure but they get in the way. \n\nWe set off at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, swing by Peckham Rye (meeting at the bike stands behind McDonalds) and then head up glorious Surrey Canal Path. QW1 is only 10 mins very easy ride from Peckham Town Centre. We asked for it to be signposted but TfL won’t allow signposting in case cyclists are misled. I’m pretty sure we are more robust than that but never mind we will show you how it’s found. \nQW1 crosses all the approach roads to the Thames bridges — starting with Tower Bridge\, London Bridge\, Southwark Bridge and finally Blackfriars. Riders can be taken to any one of them\, take your pick and we can take you on if you let us know in advance. We get to the river around 8.30am \nAny queries text me on 07842 640 207 or mail us on southwark@lcc.org.uk. Everyone welcome. Return rides arranged on request. Most things arranged on request. If the Bike Train doesn’t suit you\, ask about our Bike Taxis — your free personal escort to work. \n\n

SUMMARY:Bike Train via Burgess Park
DESCRIPTION:Burgess Park is 140 acres of seriously nice. It’s a young park\, built since the War by planners who believed that recreation and green space were essential parts of life. Quietway 7 runs across from Benhill St in Camberwell to Portland St. \nThe tricky bit has been crossing Albany Road to get to Portland but traffic engineers have built a very safe crossing with segregated space and its own traffic lights to take cyclists safely across. We will be using them on the Bike Train. \nOur route takes us up a greenway\, through Burgess Park\, up Portland St\, onto the New Kent Road cycling by-pass and up the protected bike lane on Blackfriars to Blackfriars Bridge. it’s off-road\, protected or traffic-calmed all the way. No road sharing with juggernauts\, buses or homicidal maniacs in cars too small for their egos. Safe all the way. \nWe leave Nunhead Station at 7.45am\, pick up riders at Peckham Rye Station (at the bike stands behind McDonalds at 7.55am and arrive at Blackfriars Bridge at 8.30am. We can take you on if you let us know where you want to go. \nWe are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. To ride with us you don’t need to be a member or live in Southwark. This is a no-questions-asked operation. Please let us know if you are coming. Text me on 07842 640 207. Everyone welcome. If the Bike Train doesn’t suit you\, ask about our Bike Taxis — your free personal escort to work. \nroute map is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Pq8aj3Ylf1S9eg44QbGvAD4qSbM&ll=51.49177636679164%2C-0.0878830999999991&z=12

SUMMARY:Bike Train to central London
DESCRIPTION:This is my back. My best bit. My front is friendlier\, I like to think. I lead the Bike Train but I don’t go very fast — about 8mph I’m told which is\, of course\, twice walking pace. I think I go faster than that but you get the idea. \nWe’re tending to use Quietway 1 these days rather that the traditional Bike Train route. SUMMARY:Bike Train to central London (and beyond)
DESCRIPTION:You too can cycle with the Bike Train. We’re tending to use Quietway 1 rather than the route through Burgess Park. The new junction on the park route is a lot better but the on-pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road are unsuited to large groups (or indeed anyone) \nQuietway 1 OTOH is a gem. London’s best quietway — indeed the capital’s only good quietway — it’s 10 minutes of quiet park and backstreets from Peckham Town Centre. Come with us and we’ll show you how the most risk-averse can get to central London\, feathers fully unruffled \nWe set off at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, swing by Peckham Rye (meeting at the bike stands behind McDonalds) and then head up glorious Surrey Canal Path. QW1 is only 10 mins very easy ride from Peckham Town Centre. We asked for it to be signposted but TfL won’t allow signposting in case cyclists are misled. SUMMARY:Bike Train via QW1
DESCRIPTION:This is my back. My best side. Come on the Bike Train and see more of it. We will be going via Quietway 1 — London’s best indeed only decent quietway. Just shows what can be done and a shame no one is trying to copy it. \nWe set off at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, swing by Peckham Rye (meeting at the bike stands behind McDonalds) and then head up glorious Surrey Canal Path. QW1 is only 10 mins very easy ride from Peckham Town Centre. We asked for it to be signposted but TfL won’t allow signposting in case cyclists are misled. SUMMARY:Bike train via Quietway 1
DESCRIPTION:Quietway 1. London’s best quietway. The best. The only. And very easy from Peckham. TfL don’t approve of signposting how to get to Quietways (don’t ask) so we can’t have any signs pointing the way. But you can come with us and we’ll show you. \nThe Bike Train leaves Nunhead station at 7.45am \, and leaves the Peckham Rye station at 7.55am. Departures are from the bike stands behind McDonalds on the north side of the station. We all know where McDonalds is even if we don’t go there. \nThen full steam to Quietway 1 and full steam to Blackfriars Bridge by 8.30am. From there protected lanes lead north towards Kings Cross\, west towards Westminster and east towards Tower Bridge. The most dangerous bit of your ride will be Rye Lane. \nReturn rides arranged on request. The train is led by me and I’m 65. My pace is sedate. I haven’t outpaced anyone for a long time. it’s all free. There is no catch. It’s helpful if you text me to say you are coming: 07842 640 207 or email southwark@lcc.org.uk for more info. \nWe are the Southwark branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns for safer\, more enjoyable cycling in London. What could be better than that.

SUMMARY:Bike Train and Bike Taxis
DESCRIPTION:The Bike Train has fans (lots of them) but we recognise it can’t be perfect for everyone. That’s why we are introducing Bike Taxis. These will be customised rides designed for individuals. For some people the Bike Train just doesn’t work. They don’t work on Wednesdays or they don’t like Blackfriars Bridge. If I’m describing you just get in touch and we will discuss Bike Taxis in greater depth. \nThe Bike Train will still run. It’s a commuter ride leaving out the crush\, the waiting\, the heat and the congestion. We take about 35 minutes to get from Peckham Rye to Blackfriars Bridge and we do not go fast. I’m the pace-setter and I go about 8mph. Occasionally I overtake (small) children but I’m generally overtaken by everyone else. \n\n\n\nCome with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. We bike-buddy riders to their final destination. Escorted all the way and totally free. \n\nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station. The starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds. Today we are using Quietway 1 — London’s first and best Quietway. It runs from Greenwich to Waterloo with spurs to all bridges and it runs close to Peckham and Nunhead. \nWe get to the river about 8.30am and then we can split up depending on which where you are going and which bridge you want to use. SUMMARY:Bike Train and Bike Taxi
DESCRIPTION:This is your (aging) train crew. I’m the bald one in the middle with my husband Bob on my right and my boss\, Andy\, co-ordinator of southwark cyclists on my left. We are pausing for thought near the BMX track in Burgess Park. We don’t think much so it was a short stop. \nIf we are spared by Hurricane Lulu\, the Bike Train will run via QW1 this Wednesday. This Quietway is really quiet — lots of cyclists use it but traffic counts are very low. It crosses the approach roads to Tower Bridge\, London Bridge\, Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge and is a good way to get to all of them. Not that I am recommending London Bridge\, although lots of people do use it\, it wouldn’t be my first choice. \nQuietway 1 passes quite close to Peckham but is slightly tricky to find. After that it’s well signposted\, reasonably straight and widely used by cyclists as befits such a well constructed route. The only tricky bit is understanding that this quiet backstreet leads to other quiet backstreets and on to yet more quiet backstreets until you are there. \nWe start from outside Nunhead station at 7.45am and pick up riders at Peckham Rye Station (by the bike stands behind McDonalds) ten minutes later. We arrive at the river around 8.30am depending on which bridge or bridges get the nod. \n\nFurther progress depends on where you want to go. Please text ahead to say you are coming and where you want to go to. I’m on 07842 640 207. The branch line from Denmark Hill will not run unless booked ahead. Return rides arranged on request. \n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London. Most of us are members but you don’t have to be. Most of us live in Southwark but some of us don’t and you don’t have to. And everything we do is free

SUMMARY:Bike Taxi via Quietway 1
DESCRIPTION:This is my back. My best bit. The front is quite friendly. The vest is a bit out of date. We are running our Bike Taxi to central London via Quietway 1 which is a great route but can be tricky to find from Peckham and Nunhead. \nCome with us on Wednesday and we will show you the way — 7.45am from outside Nunhead Station and 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station (meeting at the bike stands behind McDonalds). Arriving at Southwark Bridge or Blackfriars Bridge at 8.30am. \nFurther progress depends on where you want to go. Please text ahead to say you are coming and where you want to go to. SUMMARY:To central London by Bike Taxi and Bike Train
DESCRIPTION:It seems to be just me who finds black cabs romantic. Most people immediately associate them with enormous fares. Anyway Bike Taxi will not be romantic (during working hours at any rate) and they are free. \nThe idea is that your Bike Taxi will take you anywhere you wish to go — any time\, any place — by arrangement. Which means if your Bike Taxi-driver is up for getting you there. So you say what you want to do and we find someone to get you there. Your flexible friend. \n\nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station. The Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill lines join in Burgess Park which is why it’s OK that they start at the same time. \nThe starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds and at Denmark Hill from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk. Camberwell Grove and Windsor Walk have both been closed since we started so this route keeps getting better. \nOur route takes us through two parks\, up a traffic-calmed back street\, onto the on-pavement cycling lanes on the New Kent Road\, around the Elephant and Castle by-pass and onto the still lovely but no longer so new segregation up St George’s Way and Blackfriars Road. All legal and all as safe as your mother would make it. \nWe get to Blackfriars at 8.30am and anyone who wants can be buddied wherever they want. Return rides arranged on request. For further details or to book your place text 07842 640 207 (me). Or just turn up \nThe map is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Pq8aj3Ylf1S9eg44QbGvAD4qSbM&ll=51.49177636679164%2C-0.0878830999999991&z=12 \nNota Bene that the bit from Dulwich Village to Denmark Hill only runs for special occasions and subject to bribery (surprisingly small amounts accepted). So if that’s the bit for you let us know asap so that we run it. \n\n\n\nAnd the cycle.travel map is here: http://cycle.travel/map/journey/41005. The info with the map says we do 500m on major roads so it may not know about the on-pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road — and 130m pushing. No pushing. I’m fine to push when required but it’s not required. \n\n\n\n\n\nSouthwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more\, better cycling in London. SUMMARY:Commuter Ride to central London and beyond
DESCRIPTION:Come with us and enjoy your commute. No stress\, no pushing\, congestion or crowded trains. Cycling makes you happy\, keeps you fit and costs you nothing — well maybe not nothing but a lot less than the train. Smell the flowers as you speed by. \n\nWe use off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. We bike-buddy riders to their final destination. Escorted all the way and totally free. The Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station. The Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill lines join in Burgess Park which is why it’s OK that they start at the same time. \n\nThe starting point in Peckham is the bike stands behind McDonalds and at Denmark Hill from outside the cafe in Windsor Walk. SUMMARY:Bike Train to Blackfriars and beyond
DESCRIPTION:This delightful spot is our pick-up point by Denmark Hill Station. It’s a good cafe too and I must confess to enjoying the car-free peacefulness of the seats\, flowers and planters. The route goes down here round the corner and then straight until it joins Camberwell Grove. Down the hill\, through the backstreets and into Burgess Park. \nThere it meets the rest of the ride and continues up Portland Street\, along the on-pavement cycle lanes on the New Kent Road\, around the E&C bypass and onto the lovely segregation. We buddy you all the way to your destination and buddy you back. Come with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars.  \nThe Bike Train starts at 7.45am from Nunhead station\, 7.55am from Peckham Rye Station and 7.55am from Denmark Hill Station. We get to Blackfriars at 8.30am. SUMMARY:Bike Train to Blackfriars and onwards
DESCRIPTION:This is one of London’s largest and little-known parks. There’s 140 acres of it. Cyclists can use it but mysteriously not a lot do. Burgess Park and the Canal Path make up about a third of the Bike Train route. The segregated cycle lanes are about another third and traffic calmed backstreets are the final bit. The Bike Train goes through here. Nice. \nYou get the idea. The Bike Train route is mostly off-road with hundreds and hundreds of added cyclists. Come with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. SUMMARY:Bike Train to central London and beyond
DESCRIPTION:Cycling away from Peckham Library on the Surrey Canal Path. It gets quite a bit busier than this in the rush hours of course. About 1000 cyclists come up here in the morning and one assumes that the same number come back in the evening only slightly more spread out (having gone to the pub\, worked late etc) \nHowever\, you get the idea. The Bike Train route is mostly off-road with hundreds and hundreds of added cyclists. Come with us and learn off-road and segregated routes to central London via Blackfriars. We bike-buddy riders to their final destination. Escorted all the way and totally free. \n\nThe Bike Train is at a new earlier time due to popular demand.
