DESCRIPTION:Dr Bike on Quietway 1 at the junction of Lynton Road and Dunton Road and across the road from Cafe Crol (see pic) to be exact. The guys are kept in order by a professional mechanic who brings the tools and helps with the tricky stuff. They are pretty good independently though\, indexing gears\, tightening brakes\, sorting out-of-shape wheels\, and giving good advice. \nEverything they do is free and open to everyone. DESCRIPTION:Our guys will be in the cheerful and friendly Camberwell Leisure Centre in wonderfully named Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. It’s a delightful building with cafe\, good staff and\, now\, great bike fixing. \nFree and everyone welcome. It’s not a course\, it’s a drop-in. What gets taught depends on what problems you bring in. The guys that do it are well known greats from our summer-time Dr Bikes at Peckham Arch and on Quietway 1. They fix your bike and at the same time show you what to do and how you might do it yourself. The whole shebang is free\, cheerful and open to anyone. No ID checks. DESCRIPTION:Our Dr Bikes are cancelled until further notice. \nThe guys are back\, doing a basic overall bike check\, then any “small” fixes like adjusting brakes and gears\, checking chain wear\, offering advice if you need to take it to the shop\, the occasional hub bearing adjustment\, quick wheel true or cable replacement\, and whatever else can be done with hand tools. We have a professional mechanic that brings the tools and if there’s anything we’re not sure about\, he can help. \nWe’ll be under Peckham Arch (see pic) from 5.30-7.30pm. They also do less long term stuff like “How do I pump up these tyres?” (a question which puzzled me for a long time) and “Why does my chain keep coming off?” (it’s stretched and you need a new one and possibly a new set of cogs and sprockets) \nIt all takes place in the warm inside Camberwell Leisure Centre in Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. The leisure centre is very friendly with nice staff and a cafe. Bliss. \nThe sessions are run by Bruno on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. SUMMARY:Dr Bike at Walworth Living Room
DESCRIPTION:Reduce\, re-use\, re-cycle. How about Repair? This is a skill-sharing event and we will be sending our pro-mechanic to share his skills and teach other people to fettle their bikes. This is a community event to draw on skills in the community to mend stuff and get stuff mended. My grandad used to mend his family’s shoes and clocks. My aunt made clothes for four children. Fixing broken things is very satisfying. The idea is to value some of those skills again. \nIt’s being held at the Walworth Living Room (see pic above) but probably indoors rather than out. This is a new community space in Walworth\, for eating\, learning\, playing\, working\, sharing a cup of tea and getting to know your neighbours. The heart of the building is the community kitchen\, with shared activity\, meeting and office spaces. \nWe are just working on the bike-fixing bits but anyone with a broken thing or skills in mending other (not too enormous) things should phone 020 7703 3803 to contact the organisers or just come along.

DESCRIPTION:At our not-so-new venue at 41 Grosvenor Park SE5 0NH (see picture above). It’s much more respectable than it looks. Coming from Burgess Park\, cross Camberwell New Road and proceed in an westerly direction along Urlwin Street\, under the railway bridges\, left at the end and straight on into the cul-de-sac in front of you. Very respectable. Look carefully\, no 41 is slightly less respectable and belongs to the tenants association. That’s the place. No bike parking. Try the railings. \n \nThe alternative approach is via Addington Square\, across to Bethwin Street\, right into Grosvenor Terrace\, immediately right into Grosvenor Park \n Look for the cul-de-sac on your right at the end. If you are very lost shout loudly and someone will come out and wave their arms about to guide you home. We seem to have located a pub  I am glad to say. Travel hopefully and you will arrive.

Our mechanics will tighten your brakes\, check and inflate your tyres and index your gears (this means stop them making that clicking noise) They will also give chain advice (when it keeps falling off you need a new one\, clean it more often and it will last longer). \nThis wonderful service is free and open to all. The guys in the picture with the banner are: Charlie on the left (our top mechanic)\, and Andy (on the right\, who runs us all.) The picture was taken at the Cycleway 1 site so if it doesn’t look like your mental picture of the Arch\, you are right.  We pay for the Dr Bike (and the banner) ourselves (no council subsidy). \nYou don’t have to sign anything\, join anything or go anywhere. DESCRIPTION:Renaming stuff is cheaper than building it\, we can all agree. Cycleway 1 aka Quietway one is south-east London’s safest and most direct route to the centre (and back). Our guys are will be at the Dunton Road/Lynton Road crossroads. That’s the one with advance release lights on a three-way junction.   \nOur guys will be fixing bikes for all-comers. This service is free and enthusiastic. The bigger your problem the happier they are. They carry small parts like cables but not big ones like wheels. For bike reconstruction you will be referred onto our (also free) bike maintenance and tuition service which runs indoors all year round (see September 3rd)

DESCRIPTION:The usual wonderful set of guys fixing bikes and dispensing wise advice — mostly about the need to clean your chain. The effect of nagging is such that after five years of hearing them say this I have started doing it every now and again. \nThey are cheerful\, helpful\, knowledgeable and have lots of tools. They will be under or near Peckham Arch which is the big arch-shaped object at the south end of Surrey Canal Path or the north end of Rye Lane (see pic). \nDrop by and get them working for you.
