London Car-Free Day is happening. It’s happening all over the world and in London too. Don’t expect London to be car-free. It won’t be but little bits of it will. Bits in Hackney, Lewisham and a bit in Southwark. In Bermondsey Street.
To celebrate the day, the north end of Bermondsey Street from White’s Grounds to Saint Thomas St will be closed to traffic and opened up to the community. Car Free Day coincides with Open House weekend and we encourage people to take a stroll, have a look at the wonderful buildings and parks, visit the cafes and restaurants on Bermondsey Street and enjoy the car-free clean air and safer walking.
There is no clash with the Bermondsey St Festival which is the weekend before, on Saturday, 15 September. If you have any questions about London Car Free Day, contact local organiser, Hamish at: email@example.com. Visit the London Car Free Day website: https://londoncarfreeday.com/
The day starts to set up at 10am and opens in earnest at 12 noon. There will be bikes that make smoothies, Air Quality Snakes and Ladders (a clean air version of the children’s board game, video journey diaries; led bike rides (from 3pm; local history walks; cargo bikes to try out; a cycling entertainer; community group tables and an active travel info stall from the council.
