Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on the 7th February 1812, in Portsmouth and he came to London at the age of 12. To celebrate his 200th the Lost crew have put their divining sticks to one side, and have prepared London – Lost Dickens 2012 – A cycle ride

The Lost Rivers of London Part 3 & 4 The Walbrook and The Neckinger

The Thames has more than 50 tributaries between source and sea, some twenty one are on the tidal Thames. Of these two thirds are partially or wholly lost, buried beneath houses and streets, channelled away in underground tunnels, their flow diverted away by the sewer system. London lost most of it’s’ rivers in less than 100 years, testament to the wave of change that transformed it a city of 650 000 in 1750 to 8.6 million, a peak in 1939.

Xmas Vigil at Kings Cross Station

From 6pm on Tuesday 20 December 2011 cyclists, pedestrians, and friends and family of recent crash victims will gather outside King's Cross station for a Xmas vigil to remember loved ones and highlight the unacceptable death toll on the capital’s roads. 

SC Monthly Meeting

We meet on the second Wednesday of every month from 6.30pm until 8.30pm (and are quite strict about that finish time, no later). We plan rides and events, exchange ideas, sometimes have guest speakers, talk about planning applications, whatever people want to talk about and a lot more. Notes of the meeting go onto the website soon after.

Southwark Cyclists Christmas Drinks @ The Roebuck

I can confirm that The Roebuck has been booked for our party next Saturday 17 December from 6pm til late.

When booking, I looked in to other suggested venues simultaneously and none of these had availability.

I shall talk to Treasurer Hugh about putting some money behind the bar.

I hope that some of the LCC staff as well as new and old faces will be able to come and raise a toast to the work we've done this year, and to Barry.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Brixton Murals Ride

A look at surviving 1980s murals in Brixton and Stockwell. Ending in Brixton town centre where you can then enjoy Brixton market or join us for lunch/coffees at San Marino Cafe.

As a special treat, we are hoping to arrange interior access to the Brixton Windmill after we view the mural depicting this historic building - watch this space!

Meet 10am at Decathlon's cafe (good bike section too), Surrey Quays for paced-for-all, novices welcome, easy going, sociable exploring two hour ride that ends back at the start. Repeats every second Satuday of the month from Decathlon's and back to start, but routes will vary.

Lost Rivers of London (Part 2) - The Effra

The Lost Rivers of London Part 2 of 8 – The Effra.

In the mid nineteenth century the railway companies created the new suburbs of South London, and the new houses swallowed up The Effra whole. Today we can trace the river as its’ identity remained entwined with the neighbourhoods under which it flows.

The Effra is  known by various names along its’ lengths, The Shore, The Washway or the Sewer, it enters The Thames as Lambeth Creek, Vauxhall Creek or Effra Creek, dependant on your map.
