This is Francis Bernstien’s draft round up of Stats19 for 2014.  Limited what can be deduced as  changes in pedal volumes needs to factored in, and changes in vehicle volumes too.

The statistics relate only to personal injury accidents on public roads that are reported to the Police.  The majority of these are where the Police attended the collision site.  I would welcome comments and if you know others working on this 2014 data set.  Although these collision incidents are only from Police reports, and what maybe recorded as “Severe” or “Slight” severity may vary, the statistics do provide some gauge of casualty trends.

TfL’s report is here: casualties-in-greater-london-2014.pdf (also attached).

What is missing though, is assessing collision trends by a “route” or junction(s).  Longer term, I’m working on this reporting too.

In summary you may want to note, but we are waiting on others to double check;

  • In 2014, Pedestrians were 50% of all fatalities in London (P2W mode is 21%, Pedal mode is 10%, car is 15%)
  • in Inner and Outer London, KSI in 2014 are down when compared to 2013 for Pedal mode (-12% all age groups, -5% to 25-59 Age Group)
  • Inner London – All casualties Pedal mode the highest casualties 2013 and 2014, with 9% increase to 2013
  • Inner London – All casualties on “Borough Highways” – Pedal mode highest casualties 2012 to 2014, with 14% increase to 2013…….  >>

  • Total KSI in 2014 was the highest to the Pedal mode in these specific boroughs: Camden, City of London, Islington, Lambeth, Wandsworth (equal high).
  • Across all Inner London boroughs, in the 25-59 age group, the Pedal mode had overall the highest KSI casualty numbers in 2014 compared to all other modes, and was down 3% compared to 2013.
